We were made to worship

this one thing remains. there is hope. his name is Jesus.

There is only one time we’re allowed to test God… and it’s a doosey

You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit,” says the Lord Almighty. Malachi 3:9-11 NIV

It’s not about the money. Tithing is not about the money.

It’s really not.

It’s about trusting God enough to give to him first, not last. It’s about giving your best, not your leftovers.

This is about trust, not money.

What would happen if you gave your boss what was left over of your time?
What if you gave your husband, or your children, what was left over of your love, affection and attention?

Exactly. Nothing good.

We would never think of giving our family what was left over of us. That’s preposterous. It’s just as ridiculous to assume that giving your boss what’s left over of your time would result in anything but termination.

So why do we do it to God?

My guess is that most of us make the disconnect and think that it’s going to the church. We disassociate the giving with the receiver.

But God’s word is clear – He says,  “Test me in this.” It’s the only time we’re told to test God.

Now, I’m not going to tell you that when you give to God he gives you money back. God is not an ATM. What I will tell you is that the peace that comes with obedience is a freedom like no other.

Freedom through obedience. Only in God is that possible.

Father, teach us that obedience is the only way to freedom. Your word is without fail and when you say you will open up the floodgates of your blessing, I believe you.
